“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. This is so true of human beings and entertainment is one of the best means of overcoming this adage. People need to relax at some point of their day because it is relaxation that eggs you on to work better. And to relax you need entertainment. Typically entertainment is type of activity that amuses people and generally makes them feel relaxed.
There are many form of entertainment and it depends on the person concerned to decide what form of it will keep him amused. Today life is a rat race where pressures of work weigh you down no end that the significance of entertainment has increased greatly. This applies not just to adults but kids and adolescents as well. After a whole week of strenuous studies both at school and at home they too need some sort of entertainment to perk them up.
There are various entertainment shows that you can choose from to liven you up. The theater, live shows, watch shows on TV, attend sports events etc; These were some of the activities that people used to do in the past and many people attend them even today, but with the terrific advances that are being made in the field of science and technology the variety of options have increased far more. Today you will find that entertainment shows are becoming ever so popular that the entertainment industry is churning out a whole variety of entertainment shows that are of short duration but very rigorous.
Live entertainment shows are what can be enjoyed by people from all walks of life be they child or adult like music concerts, sports events, live TV shows, theater shows and the like. Anything that can keep people amused can be called entertainment. Today you will find that in the more important cities where there are more people there are lots of persons who conduct entertainment shows on the road singing songs, dancing, playing band music, anything that will help them to earn some money.
Now on a larger scale you also have entertainment shows that are planned on a corporate basis. They have various ceremonies, award functions, product launches etc. that they bundle with entertainment shows because these shows are crowd pullers. Since these sorts of entertainment shows involve a lot of people, they are entrusted to entertainment agencies to make it a success. With fashion shows now becoming the order of the day and they are combined with the entertainment industry and you really have some great shows to watch.

An unusual award has hit the headlines for rewarding entrants who make the least amount of effort with their art materials.
This year’s Turnip Prize has been awarded to trio of amateur artists who managed to beat graffiti king Banksy with their work ‘Chili n’ Minors’ which displayed one large green chili next to three smaller chillies on a paper plate.
Debutant group Doug Pitt scooped the satirical award of a turnip mounted on a six inch rusty nail at the ceremony which was created twelve years ago in Somerset in response to the ‘pretentious’ Turner Prize.
Mr Pitt joins previous victors Bracey Vermin, who took the prestigious prize in 2007 with ‘Tea P’, a collection of teabags arranged to spell the letter P, and was praised by the event’s organisers for its lack of quality.
Trevor Prideaux said: “It’s fantastic that Doug has won, he clearly has what it takes to be recognised in modern art circles (which unlike his pick have no point) and will be remembered in art history for no time at all.”
Doug Pitt, which is made up of locals Dave Gouldney, Alan Page and Jo Page, admitted that their apathetic use of art materials was the major factor which resulted in their surprise win.
They said: “I knew the moment I came up with the idea I had stuck gold, I could feel it in my veins and couldn’t wait to claim the prize. As an underground artist winning is a pipedream I can now certainly see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Banksy’s framed picture entry of a pair of hands holding a placard reading ‘This is just another publicity stunt’ which incorporates the National Union of Students logo was rejected because it demonstrated his ability with art materials.
The elusive Bristolian may not be too upset with his Turnip Prize disappointment as his film Exit through the Gift Shop was recently revealed to be in the running for the best documentary award at next year’s Oscars.
Called the ‘world’s first street art disaster movie’, the film which takes a sardonic look at the world of modern art has been included on the long list of 15 documentaries that will be reduced to five before the annual event next year.
Exit Through The Gift Shop has already been critically acclaimed having won a prize at the Grierson Trust awards, which commemorates Scottish documentary maker John Grierson.

Salman Rushdie is an Indian writer who wrote the Satanic verses. Perhaps that one book condemned him in the Moslem world. But there is more to Midnight Rushdie than the satanic verses. I have my reservations about this book, but it does not in any way diminsh my regard of Rushdie as one of the great writers of this generation.
Rushdie has written many other books starting from Midnight children. This is a brilliant book and I for one have been dazzled by it. Rightly the book won the Booker Prize. The power of Salman Rushdie’s pen is there in his books. His latest offering Lukaand the fire of life is another exceptional book. It is touted as a fairy tale, but it is not for children. The book is for grown ups and can be read by all people. Rushdie’s last fairy tale the Haraun and Sea of Stories might give the reader a clue as to what Rushdie is trying to convey in his latest book.
Haroun was the hero of the earlier novel. In this novel his 12 year old younger brother Luka is the central character. The story plot itself is a tribute to Salman Rushdie imagination. He certainly has a fertile brain to churn out such tales and put them to paper with telling effect. Rushdie creates the story through the eyes of Rashid Khalifa who falls into a deep slumber and does not wake up for days. Rushdie also creates the angel of death in human form named Nobodaddy. It is a tale with intricate plots and certainly a tribute to Rushdie’s genius. The story ends with Luka giving some hot potatoes given to him by Soraya of the magic carpet to his father. Just in time as Rashid Khalifa recovers and the family live happily ever after.
There is more to Rushdie than his fertile pen and brain. Definitely they function in a higher realm. Even his other body parts are well endowed. How else can one explain a succession of wives and Mistresses who keep him company? Here is a middle aged man who not only writes of dreams and fantasy and yet in real life lives the role of the eternal play boy. That is another reason to admire Rushdie.
But the last word is the pen of Rushdie. I for one will certainly vote for a Nobel Prize for this man. He deserves it.
